If you can find a way to get there, this is certainly a worthy event. Eric Schlosser, author of "Fast Food Nation", an in-depth delve into the world of Big Macs and Burrito Supremes, is coming to speak at the First Congregational Church in Oakland (not the one in Berkeley, as I mistakenly thought). I've read "Fast Food Nation"- it's extremely interesting, and I expect that Eric will comment on several new developments in the fast food arena, such as the recent lawsuit and McDonald's decision to lower the fat content of its fried foods.
Argh, politicians are stupid. This is the very definition of waffling: Sure, he smoked pot, but did he inhale? He doesn't remember. Well, marijuana use does affect short-term memory, so he may actually be telling the truth. Said Blagojevich, ''I don't know if I did or not. I never liked the smell of it, but it was a smell ... all of our generation is very familiar with, and I'm sure I'm not the only one in this room who can recognize that smell.''
