Today an IFC social chair seminar was held on campus to discuss "social event procedure". In other words, how to throw a party and not get it shut down. Also discussed was the "elephant in the room" (an expression I'm rather fond of): The Moratorium. Ideas on how to safely lift the ban on alcohol are making their way to Dean Kenney as we speak, and with hope, it'll be lifted early September. But that's not a promise. The Moratorium yes, does include alumni and does include game days. So, no beer at all. Of course, all of this is very nudge-wink, because everyone knows that alumni will drink beer in their own house on game day if they damn well please, so it's only a problem if it becomes an "event" (too many people, too much noise) and the Man has to come and sort things out.

Bottom line: If your house chooses to hold an event with alcohol, it's a risk and there are extremely tough consequences. They're not kidding around. But, it's only a crime if you get caught.

I'll leave you with a gem of a quote from Neal Rajmaira from Student Judicial Affairs. When suggesting other options for alumni who want to drink during game days, Neal said, "Tell them to go down to Henry's, or just to drink in the car". Thank you, Neal. Don't forget to buckle up.

Forgot to mention this earlier, but Naan 'N Curry, the new Indian Resteraunt on Telegraph, is actually quite good. This review is for the resteraunt in San Francisco, but it about sums things up. I highly reccomend the lamb curry and kebab, and the naans (flat, ovenbaked bread) are delicious.

"No thanks- Naan for me!"

I'm a happy kid. I was at the comic store at Dwight and Telegraph, and found an original NES system for only $5. With games at a buck a pop, it didn't take much to have me rolling in nostalgia. The only thing left to do is to not tell my parents- I have a feeling that if they knew I was wasting my college days playing the same videogame system I was devoted to as a 9-year-old, they might not be too happy.

Classes Monday. Good luck.

What does it mean when a team of filmmakers given "total freedom of expression" to make a series of films about the 9/11 attacks are extremely critical of the United States? It's fascinating that the foreign perspectives on the attack on America range from "others, elsewhere have it worse" to "the government is inept". Very reminiscent of some of the anti-American post-9/11 fallout in Berkeley. A tragedy is a tragedy, but there's some truth to the claims that this country is being awfully full of itself, especially with foreign policy. And with war with Iraq brewing, now may be the best time for Americans to be listening to the opinions of our allies.
